Prevention - robber stable/burgling - fire prevention
YOU can take several measures to prevent robbery in stable and (fire) damage.
The choice of those measures depends on risk which you want limit.
Consider, however, that you cannot prevent everything. Absolute security does not exist.
But you can make it for robbers and burglars as difficult as possible.
The robber or burglar generally hurries himself (certainly a port monitored in). Time is its largest enemy.
A job which goes too last long deters him. Moreover he works the most comfortable with simple appliances.
With a good firmly mechanical securing, you can make it extra difficult.
With additional electronic security he makes no appearance or any chance at all.
Saloon entrance:
In 95% of the cases the robber comes in by means of the saloon entrance which nearly never has a good lock.
Motor yachts, which are generally provided with opening doors or slide-bar brackets, are extra to be protected and is possible with several types of locks .
For sailing yachts which become with twinge seperators doors, special locks are available. It is also possible using Stainless Steel -strip to guard the entrance.
It can be made closable. Use a good certified lock.
Burglar Alarm:
YOU can protect the boat with a burgler alarm system. Show with stickers that there is a burgler alarm present.
If required you can extend a burgler alarm with reporting in case of fire, penetrating water or gaslekkage.
Track and Trace:
When you choose for alarm and track & trace, you are optimally protected.
YOU are informed directly if there is a burgling and/or robbery or calamity taking place.
With connection to the monitoring service you are also assured that action is undertaken directly to limit damage and even prevent more damage to occur.
A notification from a certified system and monitoring services will be handled with a high priority, where only real large calamities have primacy.
Frequently the monitoring serviceis used as a private guard with services to examine the situation on site and take action to any possible calamity.
Mark and Register:
For pleasure vessels the police force has made a recording form especially. Then you can register all data of your ship.
If you answer all questions, you have a complete description of your ship. Keep a part at home and keep the other part with you, when you will sail.
If you have registered everything that is on-board including the boat itself, you are already on the good path.
Moreover it is judicious on your valuable properties to place an extra and unique sign, for example your postal code and house number.
Furthermore you can make a photograph of your boat. With such photograph you give the police force excellent appliances in hands to retrieve your boat after robbery.
If required you can let the ship be registered at the land register. Information on working method, tariffs etc. you can obtain at the ship/land register.
Fire Prevention:
Make sure that you always have fire extinguishers on-board.
The bests way is to place one in each space where is a possible fire danger.
The most have been yearly inspected, however, is the extinguisher still operational and are they the correct type extinguishers?
The fire extinguishers are mostly placed in spaces that are hard to reach in case of a emergency because they are to big and spoiling the looks of the interior.
We frequently encounter extinguishers on ships which are not inspected for years, whereas this is nevertheless annually obliged for conventional extinguishers.
When there is the need because of a calamity the extinguishers hardly ever work. It is simply frequently forgotten. " total loss" is then frequently the result with or without victims or even death!
When you inspect or have to replace, it is a good idea to replace them with modern extinguishers such as the automatic FireKnockOut and the Fireater manual extinguishers.
These have no obligatory maintenance and annual testings and have 5 years guarantee and are one-time usable. A simple visibility control is sufficient to know if your extinguisher must be replaced.
In case of cracks or other damage to the extinguisher replace it. In engine spaces and electrical switch cabinets we recommend the small FireKnockOut. These extinguish the complete fire within some seconds and are not detrimental for engines, equipment and are harmless for people and environment. The Fireater a hand extinguishing sera with the same properties and can be used by any layman to extinguish any fire, because of the very long working time. It is, however, always advisable to have a spare extinguisher on-board in case you have used one.
